Stress and the Skin

By Dr Nidal Obaidat

Stress and tension cause a chemical response in the body that makes the skin more sensitive and reactive…..
Because stress causes your body to make hormones such as cortisol, which tells the glands in your skin to release more oil. Oily skin is more prone to acne, infections and other skin problems. Stress can also aggravate many skin diseases such as psoriasis, pink, eczema, and urticaria. Stress can interfere with daily skin care and the use of treatments regularly, which reduces the benefit from these treatments.
How to deal with stress?
You may not be able to completely avoid stress, but you can try several ways to deal with it better:
Don’t neglect your skin and take care of it, even if you are tired or tense.
Exercise regularly. It is good for your skin and the rest of your body.
Take the time to do something you enjoy, even if you only have 10 minutes. Take a bath, read a book, or take a short walk.
Practice stress management techniques, such as breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, or visual images.
Get enough sleep. 6-8 hours every night.
Do not overwork yourself with any work you do.
Talk to someone. Seek support from a friend or doctor.
